Dancing With Old Man Winter

Coming off a two week holiday hiatus, has the kids and I back in school and soon to be facing the full onslaught of Old Man Winter. I've got my dancing shoes on and I'm ready to tango with the old fella. I've stocked up on a bit of water, organic chips and salsa, cans of water packed tuna, instant coffee, apples, oranges and I've made a few quarts of soup. I've wrapped exposed pipe, gave my trees a drink to insulate the ground, rounded up all the furry creatures and made cozy beds for them inside the house, left the shed door open for any wild creatures that may need to take shelter for the next two nights and have rented a movie just in case the worst case scenario presents itself.

Grandma Mohler phoned me just a few minutes ago. We wished each other a Happy New Year and then she began excitedly to tell me about a mishap, some sort of explosion by the airport near Jackson. She was worried because it was a gas line and her kitchen stove functions with natural gas. I found the article and read it, told her they had turned off the gas and extinguished the fire quickly. I also told her there were no injuries reported. She wanted to know who owned the company, I told her Gulf South and that they were based in Houston. She said, "Well, that figures, they do all sorts of things wrong in Texas."

Well, I didn't argue with her, I mean she is my grandma.

I want to sit this dance out! Wind chill is 6 deg here. The good new is: Black Ice kept me home today!

I hope you are feeling better.

Your grandma sounds like a wise woman.

It's extremely cold! Brrr...

Grandma is wise, she lives in Long Beach which is about 3 1/2 hours from the explosion...

Wow! You're super prepared!!! We don't do that because it never stays cold long enough to be a problem, ha! Now watch, as I say this, a water pipe will explode and our power will go out.

Your grama is wise for sure. BUT, we do some things right in Texas, too! :P We have our own power grid in good ol' Texas, so when Grandma is suffering brown/blackouts we are sitting pretty with our power! For some reason that's the first thing that came to mind ... and the fact that we're number 1 in green (and non-green -- ugh) energy!

PS: you're so kind to leave wild animals shelter! What a lovely woman you are!!! I will be writing your name in on my ballot for this year's elections lol.

Jovan!

I don't wish any cold weather bad stuff on you! We aren't supposed to warm up until Saturday, and that's only going to be around 40 degrees. As long as your pipes aren't above ground you should be just fine! ;)

Grandma suffered through the depression, I'm sure she could HANDLE anything :)

You may ONLY write my name as long as I can write your name in...deal?

Yeah so, it's about 10* right now with a -3* wind chill, so I guess I SHOULD go check for exposed pipes and such.

Now listen, you can't write my name! It'll waste your vote! I'm not old enough to be governor, hence my suggestion of you. Just throwing it out there. But mayor, well, I gotta start somewhere!!!

I'm thinking you could be the Mayor with one hand tied behind your back EASILY! I'd rather be appointed to the SBEC if I had my choice, could you write my name in for that?

Just brewed some more coffee, filled up my travel mug and hitting the road...23 miles at 20 - 25 miles an hour takes a while! Big Hug from the mama...everyone keep safe out there!
